Porterville builder Greg Woodard named Builder of the Year
Greg Woodard a local builder has been recognized by the Tulare/Kings County Building Industry Association [BIA] as its Builder of the Year for 2004.
According to Bob Keenan, executive vice president of the local BIA, Greg set a goal to increase awareness of the career opportunities in the building industry and help with education and participation among the area’s youth. Keenan said, “Greg has done what no one else has done. He deserved the Builder of the Year Award.”
Woodard began working with Larry Dutto from the College of the Sequoias to implement a vocational program at the college. Greg has expanded his network and has included the Home Building Institute and the US Department of Labor to encourage support and participation in his vision.
The program started as a home build by COS students for the on-site farm manager. Woodard and fellow builder Paul Daley developed a coalition and obtained donations from building suppliers for the materials and the students are supplying the labor.
Woodard has been a resident of Porterville since 1989 and has built a variety of neighborhoods and custom homes throughout the area. Greg is a second-generation homebuilder taking the reins over from his father who started the family business in 1962 in Oklahoma City.
Woodard’s philosophy has been to build homes with solid construction and with solid value. Greg says,” I am not trying to build fancy homes. I want to build good homes that people can afford, and homes that they will be proud to own.”
Keenan agrees and adds, “Greg not only builds a fine product but he is also dedicated to the industry and to the youth in the area.”
Woodard is currently building a 18 home neighborhood in Visalia called Vista Heights. Vista Heights features 3 floor plans, ranging in size from 1324-1732 square feet. Prices start in the low $200’s.
River Springs will open in Porterville in early April. River Springs will feature five floor plans and 15 exterior elevations.
